Description
Chia seed is an excellent source of soluble fibre, a good source of protein and minerals, and the richest known plant source of omega-3.
Chia seeds come from the desert plant Salvia, a member of the mint family from southern Mexico. In pre-Columbian times, chia seeds were a staple of Aztec and Mayan diets and one tablespoon of the seeds was thought to sustain a person for 24 hours.
Our top tip: try soaking them as a binding ingredient to make vegan and gluten free seed crackers.
These are available in both organically certified and conventionally grown varieties.
